[Truthfully Morgan wasn't sure of the particulars of how this war had even broken out, something about a land claim dispute between a couple of noble houses that sat directly on the border between Ylisse and the Adrestian Empire and negotiations went south, soldiers were brought in to back up their respective claims and the next thing anybody knew a couple of small skirmishes had led to an all out battle with the Imperial army. And truthfully Morgan wasn't really that concerned about the particulars anyways, a chance to improve as a tactician wasn't something he was going to turn down and he'd never backed down from a fight before!

Perhaps fortunately though the war had been focused largely around a few particular territories, leading some to believe that the situation could be resolved without having to escalate into a full blown war of conquest, but there was one particular battle that would prove absolutely critical despite being a fairly small battle in the grand scheme of things. Another territorial skirmish with the Knights of House Varley, and one in which Morgan had become suddenly reminded that he'd been taking their archers entirely too lightly. Stationed in a small fort up upon a hill a band of archers believed to be led by Count Varley's daughter had given Morgan's own forces no end of hell, an arrow whizzing uncomfortably close past his head more than once despite the considerable distance to close with the formal House Knights poised to intercept any attempts at flanking the fort. But an experimental push up along the hill had led to a sudden development as the knights unexpectedly withdrew after taking only minimal losses, for reasons he as of yet didn't understand.

Taking advantage of the panic and confusion within the fort at their reinforcements suddenly retreating Morgan had seized the upper hand and successfully rushed the fort, claiming it in a mercifully short battle, albiet one in which the Count's daughter had managed to plant an arrow firmly into Morgan's side before being violently subdued. At the end of the battle though, despite seemingly being poised to run her through he had shifted his stance at the last second, swinging past her and missing on purpose before suddenly bringing the hilt of his blade down onto her head, knocking her cold rather than carrying out a fatal blow.

... and that brings us to the present moment, Bernadetta unconscious in a small but not uncomfortable bed in a makeshift field-infirmary the Ylissean army had set up, medical supplies neatly organized and put away as two guards stood outside the tent, Morgan himself sitting at a nearby table and quietly reading a book. When told she would likely regain consciousness soon he had requested to be present, thinking it would be best if he got to talk to her first. Only thing left to do now was to simply wait.]
